Silver

A few months ago I started to learn jewelry making.

Há alguns meses atrás comecei a aprender a fazer jóias.

This is how you buy silver. It comes in 100% silver grains. To make jewelry you have to combine the silver with other metals, to improve its strength and resistance. For example, sterling silver is an alloy of 92.5% silver with 7.5% copper.

É assim que compramos a prata, em grãos, 100% pura. Para fazer jóias temos que misturar outros metais à prata, melhorando sua dureza e resistência. Por exemplo, a prata 950 é 95% prata e 5% outros metais, geralmente cobre e/ou zinco.

This was the first thing I made, a pretty ring. Here in Brazil it's common to use silver rings like this when you are dating someone, kind of like a wedding ring.

Esta foi a primeira peça que fiz, um anel de prata. Poderia ser uma aliança.

 

I'm really enjoying making silver items. It's been a while since I think of opening an online shop with the things I make and jewels seem a pretty good option. I think one of the challenges of opening a handmade business is to be able to charge enough to make it worth it, considering all the time you spend on every piece.

 Estou gostando bastante de fazer peças em prata. Já faz um tempo que penso em abrir uma loja online com as coisas que faço. Para mim um dos grandes desafios de se abrir um negócio "handmade", de coisas feitas à mão, é conseguir cobrar o suficiente para que valha a pena todo o tempo que se leva para fazer cada ítem. Talvez jóias sejam uma boa opção nesse sentido.

Stop Motion

I love stop motion animations. It makes animating so accessible to anyone and creates so much room for creativity! With just a camera and enough patience, anything can be brought to life. And this has got to be the best stop motion video I've ever seen, and one of the coolest music videos ever:

I came across this awesome string wall art in Wise Craft today. So simple and brilliant!

Esbarrei nesta instalação artística para paredes hoje no blog Wise Craft. Amei, tão simples e genial! 

 

I had never seen something like this before. I wonder how complicated it would be to create original designs. Pretty time consuming i suppose, but very inexpensive and unique art for a wall. Probably won't try this on a rented apartment tough... so many holes on the wall. On the other hand I'm so smitten i would even consider going through the trouble of filling them all back and repainting the wall when its time to move out.

Nunca tinha visto algo parecido antes. Me pergunto o quanto complexo seria criar desenhos originais.

Provavelmente demorado, mas uma peça de arte super barata e exclusiva. Provavelmente não vou tentar em um apartamento alugado... tantos furos na parede. Por outro lado, gostei tanto da idéia que talvez valesse a pena encher os buracos e repintar a parede antes de devolver o ap.

Amigurumi

I learned how to crochet when I was about 10. Because of its sturdy construction, i always thought the only nice things I could make with it were rugs and hats. Until I discovered amigurumi.

Aprendi a fazer crochê quando tinha uns 10 anos. Por causa da sua construção firme, sempre achei que as únicas coisas legais que poderia fazer com ele eram tapetes ou chapéus. Até que descobri os amigurumis.

 

And then I was (literally and not) hooked!

E me apaixonei!

Some of my knitting creations

Here are some of my knitting creations:
A scarf made with this brazilian yarn;

Aqui estão algumas das minhas criações em tricô:
Um cachecol feito com o fio Artesano da Cisne, 2 novelos;

This cowl wich has an interesting construction and was really fun to make (made with this yarn);

Esta gola que tem uma construção bem interessante e divertida de tricotar, feita com este fio, 1 novelo só;

A cute little lamb which now belongs to my nephew ^-^ (pattern);

Uma ovelha fofa que agora pertence ao meu sobrinho ^-^  (receita);

 

And this fingerless gloves that gave me a lot of work but i really like. They are specially useful to do things at the computer in winter time. I used this pattern but with a few changes, they are a little shorter and i used this other pattern for the knuckles. I actually made it without the knuckles at first, but the cold air passed very easily through, so i changed it. Also i used this very nice method to cast on and bind off. Since i discovered it its all i want to use to CO and BO with!

E estas luvas sem dedo que deram um trabalhão mas eu gosto bastante! Muito útil pra ficar no computador no inverno. Usei esta receita, mas deixei mais curta e usei esta outra receita para os dedinhos. Na verdade fiz sem os dedos primeiro, mas o ar frio passava e não adiantava nada contra o frio, esntão desfiz o final e mudei.  Usei este método muito legal para montar os pontos e arrematar. Depois que descobri esta técnica quero usar em tudo, o acabamento fica perfeito! 

  

Some things I've sewn

Today I´m gonna share with you some things that i sewed a little while ago. If I would have a sewing machine I'd have more recent creations to show, the one i used for the ones shown here was borrowed. Oh well, one day I´ll have one =)

Hoje vou compartilhar algumas coisinhas que costurei um tempo atrás. Se eu tivesse uma máquina de costura, teria algumas criações mais recentes pra mostrar, a que eu usei quando fiz essas coisas era emprestada. Bom, um dia terei uma =)

This one was pretty much the first thing i ever made with a sewing machine (i made some curtains before). I enjoy it and still use it a lot. I don´t remember the references i used for it... one was for the patchwork pattern, to which i added some rectangles to the side so the bag would not be squared, and the rest just some good old google.

Essa foi basicamente a primeira coisa que eu costurei (depois de umas cortinas). Eu gosto e uso bastante ainda. Não lembro que referências usei... uma foi para a padronagem do patchwork, que adicionei uns retângulos dos lados pra bolsa não ficar quadrada. O resto foi o bom e velho google msm.

This little baskets were originally intended to keep uncharged and charged batteries (hence the red and green colors). But now they hold all kinds of little things like phone chargers, keys and coins. hehe. I used this tutorial for reference, but adapted some things.

Essas cestinhas eu fiz para guardar as pilhas carregadas e não carregadas (por isso verde e vermelho). Mas agora já virou porta-trecos msm... rs. Usei esse tutorial como referência, mas adaptei algumas coisas.

And this is a handy little pouch where i keep my nail stuff. Used this tutorial and just changed the measures a bit (The fabric used in the original tutorial is so sweet by the way! ♥ ). I used a pvc plastic sheet also and just sewed it together with the fabric. It can also be used on the inside and its a nice little touch to keep it water safe in the bathroom or to prevent any leaking that may happen inside to become more disastrous.

E essa é uma bolsinha bacana em que guardo minhas coisitas de unhas. Usei esse tutorial, só mudei as medidas (O tecido usado no tutorial é lindo, por sinal! ♥ ). Usei um plástico pvc tb e costurei junto com o tecido, é bom por ser impermeável, dá pra deixar no banheiro por exemplo. Pode ser colocado tb na parte de dentro, aí se acontecer algum vazamento pelo menos não vira um desastre na sua bolsa.
